Canada’s Adrienne Pierce MTV Iggy Blog MTV Iggy - Global Pop Culture, Latest Trends and New Music

Addi Somekh's balloon hats are perhaps the fashion equivalent of Pierces bright, light tunes.
Born in Horseshoe Bay, Canada, Adrienne Pierce has a light, spritely voice that seems to hop over the plucks of guitar that build into her folk-pop songs, which despite their often despondent lyrics, always seem bright and bubbly. She’s the girlish Canadian Sondre Lerche, a pop-darling with indie cred.
Pierce writes all her own music, of course, and even self-released her debut EP, Small Fires, which snagged her a record deal. Demos to her follow-up EP, Hors D’Oevres, made their way onto the soundtracks of US television shows Grey’s Anatomy and Veronica Mars and ever since, she’s been blooming — touring all of North America and opening for everyone from folk star Jane Sibbery to indie rock Stereophonics and of course, Sondre Lerche himself. Her upcoming album Oh Deer is out in March, but for a teaser we’ve got a premiere of the new video for “Museum” off that album. Directed by Allison Beda, the video’s real star is the balloon hats which float in and out of the frame attached to Ms. Pierce. They’re by Addi Somekh, a childhood friend of Adrienne Pierce’s husband, and as soon as she saw the hats she was sure she wanted to use them in a video, she wrote on her official site:

“Addi said he had been making balloon hats and had travelled all over the world and had made a book with a photographer friend of his. I looked this up as soon as we got home and I became obsessed with the beautiful balloon hats and wanted to use them in a video. I told Allison Beda about this and we started planning our music video for Museum. I was so excited the day Addi arrived at the front door with 20 balloon hats for us to use. With those hats and a borrowed camera and one borrowed light, Allison was able to shoot this video in my living room.”
The video premiered on MTV Iggy. You can watch it below.
